Who is leaving cards with uplifting messages around town?

DETROIT – A Detroit man would like your help to find a young girl and her friends who are working to lift spirits in Detroit.

Over the weekend, Keenan Hastings was in Starbucks at Campus Martius when a group of teenage girls came in and began handing out cards.

"She was really young," Hastings said. "She sat the card on the table and left."

That envelope, and the handful of others, said "Open Me" on the outside. Inside were inspirational messages. Hastings' card read "Never Give Up". Another read "Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will."

What the girls don't know is how much the card means to Hastings. He's been out of work for 6 months and is struggling to provide for his family, including his 3-month-old daughter.

Hastings also is a freelance photographer. He took photos of his card and another and posted them online (see his blog here), asking if anybody knows who this group is. Several have responded saying they've randomly received cards, too, but have no idea who created them.

"I really want to know what their motivation was," Hastings said.

So, Local 4 would like your help to find this group of girls. If you know, you can either drop a hint on Twitter using the hashtag #raokdetroit (Random Acts of Kindness), or e-mail reporter Nick Monacelli at nickm@wdiv.com.
