BELLEVILLE, Mich. - The Yankee Air Museum is hosting its first-ever traveling exhibit with artifacts on loan from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and AirZoo in Kalamazoo, MI.
The exhibit features Michigan native Jack Lousma and his contributions to the space program.
A panel display and photographs of the Apollo Project as well as a 1/3 scale Command Service Module and a 1/3 scale Lunar Excursion Module encompass the exhibit.
Visitors will learn about Skylab -- the United States' first space station, some of NASA's first space shuttle missions, as well as heliophysics - the study of the Sun.
Admission to the NASA exhibit is included in the museum's regular admission fees of $5 per adult, $3 for senior citizens and $8 for families.
The exhibit is open during regular Museum operating hours from 10 AM – 4 PM Tuesdays through Saturdays.
It will run from Feb. 12 through May 10th.
Student groups, K-12 schools, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and home school groups can schedule programs and tours for the NASA exhibit through the Yankee Air Museum Education Department at 734.483.4030 x227 or Rachel.email@example.com.
To welcome the exhibit, the museum will host the NASA Project Apollo Exhibit Launch Party on Saturday, February 9th, 2013 from 5:00 PM-9:00 PM at the Yankee Air Museum.
Admission is free and open to the public.
The exhibit launch party will be an interactive event with special activities for families to enjoy.
There will be several do-it-yourself science experiments, a mock shuttle repair station, an astronomy observation station, a moonwalk, a Velcro climbing wall and a bungee run course.
There will also be an opportunity to fly in a NASAF-18 simulator over Cape Canaveral. A one hour photograph session with Jack Lousma will take place from 6:15 PM - 7:15 PM.
Light refreshments will be provided and free goodie bags will be given out to the first 200 kids through the doors.
