Ruth to the Rescue investigates where recalled beef products were sold to help you keep your family healthy and safe. The federal government says no one has gotten sick yet and they believe this recall to be very low threat. Most of the recalled beef products from the Westland-Hallmark Slaughterhouse were sold to schools and fast food restaurants.
We called several local restaurants to see if they serve the recalled beef and we found McDonald's and Burger King do not sell the recalled meat.We also checked at local grocery store chains Wal-Mart, Meijer, and Kroger and found they do not sell any recalled beef products.Sysco food distributors say they do not carry the recalled meat products; however Grand Rapids-based Gordon Food Service says they sold the recalled meat products to school districts around the state of Michigan.Gordon Food Service says they informed all schools that were supplied with the USDA-commodity beef.Schools in Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids have confirmed they did receive the beef. Ann Arbor Public Schools say they did not serve the beef.If you are curious to know if your kids' school serves this recalled beef call the district and demand to know where they buy their meat.
