3 more deaths linked to faulty GM ignition switches

Total deaths linked to faulty part now 80; 11 serious injuries also linked

DETROIT – Three more deaths have been linked to the faulty ignition switches in General Motors vehicles.
Along with those three deaths, GM's compensation fund accepted 15 new injury claims. That puts the total at 80 deaths, 11 serious injuries and 137 less serious injuries from a delayed recall of 2.6 million cars.

Those numbers still could go up because more than 1,200 claims are under review including 91 death claims. The deadline to apply was Jan. 31

GM set aside $400 million to pay claims but the automaker now is saying it could take another $200 million to pay everything.
