Federal safety regulators are trying to determine if a problem with *side* air bags is more widespread that first thought. The safety concerns have already lead to recalls of some Toyota, Honda, Nissan and Subaru vehicles.

The National Highway Safety Administration says the airbags might not inflate during a crash, due to an incorrect mixture of gas inside the bags.

So far, about 27-hundred vehicles are affected. Recalled vehicles include Toyota RAV-4s; Honda Accords, Civics, Crosstours and Acura MDXs; Subaru Legacys and Outbacks; and Nissan Altimas and Versas.

The feds want to know if more automakers used the same bags.
