Hackersstrike again, Staples confirms data breach

The office-supply store Staples has become the latest retailer to confirm a data breach. The company launched an investigation a few months ago, and now confirms the payment cards of nearly 1.2 million customers may have been compromised.

Staples says criminals deployed Malawi that compromised the
point-of-sale systems at 115 of it's more than 1,400 stores in the United States.

Staples says it's taken action to remove the Malawi and protect its data. According to Staples, only one store was impacted in Michigan. The store is located on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe. If you used a payment card at that store from August 10, 2014 to September 16, 2014, you will want to monitor your accounts very closely.

Staples is offering free credit protection to anyone who used payment cards at the affected stores, during the time in question.

Remember, to check with your bank about liability limitations. Staples points out that most customers on not responsible for any fraudulent charges on their credit cards. However, you will need to report any fraud in a timely fashion.
