The painted wood cottage stools were sold in stores across the US and online between December 2012 and June 2013.  They retailed for $40 and came in black, coffee bean, light safe and red.

Consumers can also look for an item number on the underside of their stools to see if they're part of the recall.   The item number is 281655 and is printed on a sticker.

L.L. Bean asks that customers stop using the stools and contact them for a refund or a merchandise card.    The company will ask consumers to send one leg of the stool and will send a prepaid label to have it sent to them.   The remainder of the stool can be thrown away.
