Local retailers launch '12 Days of Christmas' sales event benefiting charity

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – During the most wonderful time of the year, retailers in Royal Oak will join together to launch the "12 Days of Christmas" sales event beginning Dec. 13 and ending Dec. 24. The event, created by the Royal Oak Association of Retailers, will offer 12 days of sales incentives to local shoppers from tax-free purchases to customer appreciation days.

In addition to each incentive, shoppers and retailers have the opportunity to give back to the community through a canned food drive benefiting, one of Michigan's largest non-profit food drive centers, Forgotten Harvest. In Macomb, Oakland and Wayne Counties, one in five children live in poverty. In the tri-county area 500,000 people including nearly 200,000 children, live in poverty. Four million households in Michigan live at risk of hunger.

"We are honored to be able to serve our community through this event. As individuals are shopping, they also will benefit families who are in need!", says event coordinator and owner of Wooden Hangers, LaJoya Roy, "We encourage all who can to come out and support."

Participating retailers such as Five15 Media, Wooden Hangers, Blu Jeans Bar, Incognito, That Girl Resale and a host of others will serve as drop off stations for the food drive. In addition to the sales incentives already taking place in each retail store, shoppers will receive an additional percentage off of their purchases for each canned food item donated. Donation boxes will also be available a few days after the event, allowing shoppers the opportunity to continue giving back after the event has ended.
