Miracle Grill Mat claims nothing will stick to your grill again

Shelby township teacher tests Miracle Grill Mat on backyard BBQ

Firing up the grill for a barbecue is a favorite summertime activity for many like Chris Kuhlman, a high school theater teacher in Shelby Township.

Kuhlman likes to barbecue often, as many as three or four times a week. "In the summer it's the best way to cook," Kuhlman said.

Nothing can be more frustrating when you're grilling than having your favorite meats get stuck on the grill, but one product claims it can stop that from happening.

The Miracle Grill Mat says it can prevent meat from sticking to the grill and make any grill surface completely nonstick to eliminate the clean up. Kuhlman put the Miracle Grill Mat to the test to see if food tastes as good on the mat as it does on the grill.

Kuhlman was skeptical that the grill mats would keep the juicy and tender grill flavor and get the sear marks, like the product claims. "I don't buy the grill marks. I don't know how you can still get the marks through the actual mat," Kuhlman said.

The mats claim they are cut to fit any grill and they fit perfectly on Kuhlman's grill. "Alright let's see if they cook!" Kuhlman said.

Kuhlman had a variety of foods to cook up to test the mats. "We have some turkey burgers, some salmon, and just some vegetables some peppers that I normally grill up, but I also thought it would be interesting to try some breakfast foods 'cause I don't ever grill breakfast," Kuhlman said.

First up. Kuhlman tried grilling turkey burgers, a family favorite. "Wow, it definitely doesn't stick at all," Kuhlman said.

While the burgers didn't stick to the grill mats Kuhlman did notice something. "Usually all the juices fall through the grate, so cooking and seeing the juices is a little, it's different," Kuhlman said.

The mats claim to still put sear marks on the meat, and there were some light sear marks on the burgers.

Next up was the salmon. The fish didn't stick at all and had visible sear marks. "It looks exactly like it would if I cooked if on the grill normally. It looks really good, nice and pink.  It's cooked through it's flaky," Kuhlman said.

While the fish was cooking, Kuhlman sautéed some peppers, and because they were on the grill mat they weren't falling through the cracks.

The Miracle Grill Mat claims breakfast can be cooked on the grill with the mats.

Kuhlman tried frying up some bacon.

He quickly got a good sizzle going, but soon he spotted flames.

"I almost guarantee it was the bacon grease falling off the mat," Kuhlman said.

Kuhlman shut the grill off and waited for the fire to burn out. Then he turned it back on and fried up some eggs.

"Here is the real test if something (will) stick," Kuhlman said about flipping the eggs.

The mats slid around making the eggs tough to flip, but they didn't stick. "Mmm tastes like a good fried egg," Kuhlman said.
Clean up
The grill mats were dirty after cooking so much food, but the mats claim to be easy to clean and 100% nonstick. When Kuhlman cleaned them, everything came right off.

"That's pretty cool," Kuhlman said.

Kuhlman really liked the grill mat for the fish, vegetables, and cooking up breakfast, but would prefer cooking his favorite meats- chicken, burgers, and steaks - right on the grill. "I think they definitely be a good item to have to use whenever you want use it," Kuhlman.

Miracle grill recommends using wood, plastic, or silicone utensils with the mats and Kuhlman agrees, he used silicone and metal utensils that scratched his mats.

The Miracle Grill Mat sells for $19.95 for a set of two.  It can be purchased online.

The product has a 5 year warranty.
