Pets to be spoiled this holiday season

DETROIT – Pet owners are planning to shower their pets with plenty of gifts this holiday season.

"The pet category is seeing a huge surge in sales. About 1.5 more sales than we saw last year," says Tamara Gaffney, an Adobe data analyst.

Primarily on pets wish lists: toys. Online retailers are seeing a spike in specialty items related to holidays. Also, a doll that looks like Donald Trump, called 'Dognald,' is also a hot seller.

Subscription services, like BarkBox, that delivers toys and treats monthly are also favored by those who want to spoil their pet more than once a year.

With the holidays fast approaching, experts urge to buy ASAP.

"Right now, shopping for your pet the best time is this week or as soon as possible," said Gaffney.

Pet owners are expected to pay an average of $62 on their pets this year.
