IKEA recalls crib mattresses due to violation of federal flammability standard

Swedish furniture giant IKEA is recalling thousands of crib mattresses because they fail to meet the federal open flame standard, posing a fire hazard.

While no injuries have been reported, parents are urged to stop using the mattresses immediately and contact IKEA about receiving a full refund.

This recall involves about 38,400 VYSSA SPELEVINK mattresses. They were previously recalled in January, 2015 and May, 2015 as part of larger recalls focusing on an entrapment hazard. Parents impacted by those previous recalls may have received a VYSSA SPELEVINK, and now those involved in the new recall need to be replaced again.

Product details 

The recalled mattresses are 52 inches long and 27 1/2 inches wide. The crib mattresses are white with a blue piping around the edge and have an identification label attached to the mattress cover has the date of manufacture in Month-DD-YY format or YY-W format and the VYSSA SPELEVINK model name. 

Mattresses made after July 2007 also have a federal tag at the foot of the mattress.

The mattresses were sold at IKEA stores nationwide and online at www.ikea-usa.com from October 2000 through May 2014 for about $100.
