Listeria monocytogenes can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.

Healthy individuals might suffer only short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, but it can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women, officials said.

The company has not received reports of illness as a result of the potential contamination.

The affected product is the 10 count box of Kellogg's Eggo Nutri-Grain whole wheat waffles with package UPC code "38000 40370." It has a "best if used by date" of Nov. 21, 2017 or Nov. 22, 2017.
