A Grosse Pointe family has asked for sympathy for their son, who has been accused of stalking celebrity Sandra Bullock.
Actress Sandra Bullock has been granted a temporary restraining order against Thomas James Weldon, 34, who she claimed has been stalking her across the country.Weldon had previously been convicted of aggravated stalking in Michigan. He was put on probation and given drug treatment after his release.
Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scot Gordon on Friday granted the temporary restraining order against Weldon (pictured, below), who has been ordered not to contact the actress or come within 200 yards of her.According to the complaint, Bullock, 38, alleges that Weldon has followed her to California, Texas and South Carolina, and has sent her several e-mails and faxes. In addition, Bullock claims Weldon has left voice-mail messages for her at her production company and with her family that allegedly said he wants to have a relationship with her.The complaint said Weldon, who was born in Michigan but now lives in Los Angeles, has admitted he refuses to take medication for paranoid schizophrenia."I would like to draw attention to the fact that Tom is mentally ill. He's not a criminal," Weldon's mother told Local 4.She said the family has tried to seek help for him for 14 years, but he refuses to take medication.Weldon's mother offered an apology to Bullock and her family, and said she hopes that they can sympathize with Weldon's condition, Local 4 reported. The family has reportedly not seen him for years, but they don't believe he's a danger to himself or others.
A hearing has been set for June 6 to hear Bullock's request to make the temporary restraining order permanent.Bullock has starred in such films as "Speed," "While You Were Sleeping," "Miss Congeniality" and "Two Weeks Notice."
