House Fire Sends Five To Hospital
Fire Officials Say Fire May Have Been Started By Children Playing With Matches
HAMTRAMCK, Mich., Updated 7:53 p.m. EDT August 21, 2000-- Five people were sent to the hospital after a fire Monday morning on Holbrook Street in Hamtramck.

A 6-year-old boy and a 3-year-old boy were taken to Children's Hospital. Three adults, including the parents of the children and a 76-year-old man, were taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital. The mother, who is reportedly in her 20s, was listed in serious condition. The other victims were listed in good condition.

The house was divided into four apartments. The family of four lived on the bottom floor.

Fire officials said that the fire may have been started by the children playing with matches. The 3-year-old boy told EMS workers that he and his brother were playing by throwing matches at the sofa.

Fire officials said they are looking for evidence in the sofa to determine the exact cause.
