Macomb Township homeowner Doug Crenshaw smelled smoke early Thursday morning, but could not find a fire inside the home, Local 4 learned. His home also reportedly lost electricity. He went outside the home on Woodmill Drive and noticed the roof was on fire, according to the station's reports.

"We pulled everybody out and called the fire department," Crenshaw said.

Crenshaw, his wife and 9-year-old daughter were able to get out safely.

The roof, upper portion of the house and the living room were damaged in the fire.

"Just the luck of Mother Nature," Crenshaw said about the damage to his home.

Neighbors are reportedly helping out the family.

A Chelsea house also caught fire after reportedly being struck by lightning Wednesday night.

The home is located in the 200 block of Glazier Road. Fire investigators believe the fire was sparked by a lightning strike, but continue to investigate, Local 4 reported.

No injuries were reported in the Chelsea fire.

Overnight storms caused other problems in metro Detroit including downed power lines and flooding.
