New Study Lists Most Stolen Cars, Most Popular Colors Taken
If you're driving a 2000 Jeep Cherokee, you might want to consider an extra lock when you park it.
A new report, released Tuesday, shows that the 2000 Cherokee is the most commonly stolen in Michigan.
The annual report is compiled by the Auto Theft Prevention Authority of Michigan and Help Eliminate Auto Thefts (HEAT).
The good news is that car theft in Michigan dropped 4 percent from 1998 to 1999.
Other findings show that:
- Detroit remains the city where most cars are stolen in the state (although theft has dropped in Detroit the last three years running)
- Wayne County is the No. 1 county for stolen cars
- White is the most popular color for a stolen car
- October is the most popular month for an auto theft
- Monday is the top day of the week for thievery
The top five cities for car theft were:
- Detroit
- Flint
- Dearborn
- Grand Rapids
- Southfield
The top five counties:
- Wayne
- Oakland
- Genesee
- Macomb
- Kent
