Local Educator Wins Teacher Of The Year

A Chippewa Valley educator has won the teacher of the year award for Michigan.

Brent Vasicek was awarded the American Stars of Teaching Award for the state of Michigan.

Vasicek is a fourth-grade teacher at Miami Elementary school in Clinton Township.

He was chosen from among 4,000 candidates nominated by parents, students, principals and other school personnel.

A United States Education official made the surprise announcement to Vasicek at a school assembly on Tuesday.
