Hazel Park Schools are broke, says superintendent's memo

Hazel Park Schools out of money due to drop in enrollment

HAZEL PARK, Mich. – The Hazel Park Schools are out of money, according to a memo sent out by the superintendent on Monday.

The memo says the school district is in "serious financial stress" because of an "unexpected drop" in student enrollment.

The Hazel Park district is working on a deficit reduction plan which should be clarified in June.

Paychecks will go out through the rest of this month but layoffs are coming in the district.
