Dueling co-hosts Katie Couric and Sarah Palin are the latest shots fired in a long-running war to dominate the morning show TV market.

Bryant Gumbel replaced Brokaw, who left for "NBC Nightly News," in 1982 and continued as co-host for 15 years with Pauley, then Deborah Norville and Katie Couric.
