Writers Strike Holds Up 7th Day Of '24'

No Talks Scheduled Between Guild, Producers

UPDATED: 11:14 am EST November 8,2007

Without 24 scripts to guarantee a full season of shows, the network behind the real-time "24" has postponed the show indefinitely.

The move comes as the Hollywood writers strike enters its fourth day. Fox said that the clock won't start on Day 7 of "24" unless can run all the episodes from week to week without a break.

With "24" on hold, the network is juggling its mid-season schedule because of the strike.

The show, which stars Kiefer Sutherland as Counter Terrorism Unit agent Jack Bauer, was previously set to start in January with as many as nine episodes completed.

The strike began Monday after talks broke off between the WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. The writers want more residuals from DVD sales and shows that are offered over the Internet.

With shows running out of scripts and some stars refusing to cross picket lines, at least eight other prime-time television shows apart from "24" have halted production.

The shows include ABC's "Desperate Housewives" and "Brothers and Sisters"; CBS' "Two and a Half Men," "The Big Bang Theory" and "Rules of Engagement"; Fox's "'Til Death" and "Back to You"; and NBC's "The Office.

Greg Daniels, the executive producer of "The Office" is also one of the writers who has joined the picket lines.

Daniels said filming stopped when star Steve Carell refused to cross the line. Writers and actors from "The Office" have also used their time on the picket line to make a video and post it on YouTube.

Still wearing their scrubs from being on the set, many cast members of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy" stepped outside during their lunch Wednesday to add their voices to the striking writers.

Ellen Pompeo said that she joined the pickets because the actors are "in solidarity with the writers."

Eric Dane said that he has two reasons to support the writers: One for solidarity and the other because they've given him "the biggest break" in his career.

Filming on "Grey's Anatomy" is expected to wrap up next week unless the strike is resolved.

The impact of the writers strike is beginning to be felt beyond New York and Hollywood.

In Louisiana, crews on the set of the Fox police drama, "K-Ville," which portrays post-Katrina New Orleans, have been filming the last episode written before the strike.

"K-Ville" co-star Cole Hauser said that he's hoping for a quick end to the walkout, because he says the show was "just starting to get on a roll."
