The Pontiac Silverdome debuts its drive-in movie theater Friday with a double feature.
The movies scheduled through Thursday at dusk are "Duplex," rated PG-13 and starring Ben Stiller and Drew Barrymore and "Kill Bill," rated R and starring Uma Thurman and directed by Quentin Tarantino.
The cost of $7.50 for adults and $4.50 for seniors and children ages 8 to 12 include two first-run movies. Children ages 7 and under will be admitted at no charge.
Movies tickets can only be purchased upon arrival on the day of the show. All sales will be cash only, according to Silverdome officials.
The drive-in is located on the grounds of the Silverdome. Moviegoers are asked to enter off Featherstone Road at Gate 5 and exit on Opdyke Road at Gate 1. Three 45-foot-by-85-foot screens are expected to accommodate about 360 vehicles each, according to Silverdome officials. Two more screens are expected to open in the spring of 2004.
The grounds feature a concession stand and cart vendors to sell food and beverages to moviegoers. Alcohol will not be served and is banned from the grounds.
And gone are the days of speakers attached to the car window. Viewers will receive sound through special short-range frequencies on their car radios.
