Eminem Packs 'Em In At Comerica

50 Cent, D12 Join Slim Shady For Anger Management Tour

UPDATED: 12:19 am EDT August 13, 2005

A sold-out crowd jammed into Comerica Park as Detroit-area rap star Eminem wrapped up the Anger Management Tour 3 with 50 Cent at Comerica Park Friday night.

The show was scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. at the 40,950-seat stadium that is home to the Detroit Tigers. Filled to capacity, general admission on the field was standing-room only. No chairs were provided and the view from Sky 4 showed that there wasn't an inch of space left.

At 10 p.m., the lights went down and a five-minute video montage played featuring photos of the rap star as a young kid, then pictures of Eminem and his daughter, Hailie Jade. The last half of the montage turned into a short movie, starring Eminem with the title "Earlier Today." It featured the rapper "backstage" and getting dressed in a shirt, suit coat and tie, but morbid in the fact that the theme was Eminem contemplating suicide. He displayed a silver gun, pointed it at the dressing-room mirror, but then decided to face the crowd.

As if walking out from the movie, the real Eminem strutted onto the stage solo. Dissing his usual do-rag for a black suit, white shirt and tie, Eminem didn't look the part of the bad boy rapper, but rather a businessman.

From the appearance of the packed stadium, jammed streets and bars in downtown Detroit, Eminem is one of the Motor City's most lucrative businesses.

The concert also featured special guests Lil' John and the Eastside Boys, D12, G-Unit, Obie Trice and Statquo, according to Olympia Entertainment.

The weekend concert comes two years after Eminem and 50 Cent played two shows at neighboring Ford Field, the home of the Detroit Lions. The third installment of the Anger Management Tour kicked off in Indianapolis on July 7. Rumor has it this could be Eminem's last tour and that he is contemplating a self-imposed retirement.

Grammy-winner Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers and who is also known as "Slim Shady," grew up in Warren, Mich. He won an Oscar for the song "Lose Yourself" from the "8 Mile" movie soundtrack. "8 Mile" starred Eminem and was filmed in and around Detroit.
