HBO at work on a 'Game Change' sequel

Most of you have probably joked around about who could star in a "Game Change 2" movie about the 2012 presidential election, but now it's time to start casting in earnest.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, HBO has optioned the rights to an upcoming book on the 2012 elections from Mark Halperin and John Heilemann, the same writers who wrote the best-seller "Game Change," which HBO later adapted into the award-winning TV movie.

Halperin and Heilemann's book, "Double Down: Game Change 2012," will be published by Penguin in the fall of 2013 before HBO develops it as a film.

This year's "Game Change," which chronicles Sen. John McCain's 2008 presidential campaign and his selection of Sarah Palin as his running mate, has racked up accolades. Earlier this year, the TV movie won four Emmys, including the best miniseries or movie honor; a best directing Emmy for Jay Roach; a best miniseries writing Emmy for Danny Strong; and a best miniseries or TV movie lead actress Emmy for Julianne Moore, who was cast as an uncanny Palin look-a-like.

Moore most recently earned a Screen Actors Guild Awards nomination for the role, along with her "Game Change" co-stars Ed Harris, who played Sen. McCain, and Woody Harrelson, who portrayed Republican strategist Steve Schmidt.
