Heart of Detroit: Charity Music

DETROIT – They say that music is in the soul, and to make it, you need an instrument.

That's where Charity Music comes in.

Charity Music has given away thousands of instruments and helped others to make a lot of music.

"Yeah, I am sure it is over one thousand. We did look at those numbers," said Roger Fachini, CEO of Charity Music.

Charity Music provides free instruments to needy kids, at risk kids, or kids with little exposure to a music education at school.

What's the most sought after instrument by the kids?

"Guitar…everyone wants it," said Fachini, adding that some of their biggest supports are "guitar people."

Charity Music takes instrument donations and loans them to interested kids, which expands their creativity and so much more.

'It helps their math, their whole learning skills," said Fachini.

"We deal with a lot of single parents and sometimes the child appreciates the instrument where the parents understand how important that instrument is," he said.

Unless of course Charity Music is giving a drum set, then perhaps a parent might not be as energized.

With plans for a community center, recording studio, even a sheet music library, Charity Music hopes to play the notes that children's dreams are made of.

When Charity Music gives away an instrument, the child's face often tells of the difference that instrument makes in their lives.

"Yes, you know it is almost like Christmas when we give it to them," said Fachini.

Providing tools to match the talent, Charity Music plays a wonderful soundtrack for the heart of Detroit.
