Sarah Jessica Parker on 'Carrie Diaries': It's odd
Actress played original Carrie Bradshaw on 'Sex and the City'
When it comes to The CW's "The Carrie Diaries," it sounds like we should consider Sarah Jessica Parker unimpressed.
The 47-year-old actress, who played the original Carrie Bradshaw on HBO's "Sex and the City" for six seasons (and two movies), told fashion and shopping website Net-a-Porter.com that she's not particularly loving The CW's new "SATC" prequel series.
"I'm not sure," Parker responded when asked what it feels like to see Bradshaw back on the small screen, this time played by 19-year-old AnnaSophia Robb.
(Robb stars in the series as a high-school-aged Carrie Bradshaw in the '80s, as based on the book from "Sex and the City" writer Candace Bushnell.)
"You know, I think it's one of those tests of your generosity," Parker continued. "(Robb) is a lovely girl and I want her to feel good about it, but it's ... odd."
As for what "Sex and the City's" legacy might be on TV -- aside from that "odd" prequel -- Parker's more hesitant.
"I think it certainly encouraged women to share more candidly," she said. "I don't know if it empowered women. I hesitate to say whether we were the pioneers or whether we gave voice to something that was there, but I recognize there was a connection."
