(CNN) -

While some people pondered the uncertainty of North Korea's economic future upon learning of Kim Jong Il's death, "30 Rock" fans had their own concern: What will become of Avery Jessup?

The journalist, played by Elizabeth Banks, was kidnapped while on assignment in North Korea at the end of season 5.

Last seen filming Kim Jong Il propaganda, Jack Donaghy's wife (and baby mama) turns up in a season 6 promo on a holiday card with Kim Jong Un. The card reads, "Death to U.S. Imperialist Wolves and Happy Hanukkah."

But fans might have to wait until "30 Rock" returns on January 12 to find out what happens to the recurring character. NBC isn't commenting on how/if the show will address the dictator's death.

Banks responded to fans' tweets about her character, saying, "Appreciate all the concern over Avery Jessup's fate now that Kim Jong Il has died. We're at a pivotal moment in history."

Had "30 Rock" premiered in the fall - as it usually does - there would be no questions surrounding the Jessup storyline. (The show had a slightly longer hiatus because creator and star Tina Fey gave birth to her second daughter in August.)
