Burger King's official Twitter account hacked by 'McDonald's'

DETROIT – Burger King's official Twitter account was hacked Monday and turned into a digital billboard for rival fast food chain McDonald's.

Whoever targeted the @BurgerKing account changed the avatar to the iconic golden arches and started sending tweets around noon like, "We just got sold to McDonalds! Look for McDonalds in a hood near you @DFNCTSC."

In the past hour, some posts from the account have contained racial epithets, references to drug use and obscenities. The account has also tweeted: "if I catch you at a wendys, we're fightin!"

"The fact that @BurgerKing got hacked and turned into a @McDonalds feed is pretty funny. Never know what is going to happen in social media," reads one tweet.

Another was retweeted to say "Somebody needs to tell Burgerking that 'whopper123' isn't a secure password."

Burger King Worldwide Inc., which is based in Miami, suspended the account an hour later.
