Carson Daly joins the TODAY Show as host of the Orange Room

Daily to host interactive segment of NBC's Today Show

NEW YORK – TODAY will return to a brand new Studio 1A on Monday, September 16th. As part of the debut, the TODAY team will launch a first-of-its-kind digital studio, the Orange Room, with Carson Daly as its host.

 

Redesigned for the first time in seven years, Studio 1A features an open floor plan to promote the seamless interaction of the TODAY team, guests and audience in a modern, multi-platform approach. The new set also provides the program's hosts and producers with the flexibility to tell and share engaging, illustrative stories, using tools such as a state-of-the-art video display system and an interactive weather monitor—specially designed by Al Roker and his team.

 

Situated directly within the new Studio 1A, the Orange Room is the nexus point between the TODAY audience and the show, embracing the many ways that viewers seek out and share news across all media and allowing the show and its fans to connect in a variety of new ways. In a casual, lounge-like setting, the Orange Room will also be a hub of emerging technology, equipped for everything from social media hangouts, to extended live-stream interviews with TODAY guests, analysis of real-time social data and reactions from the web, as well as the home for TODAY's original digital franchises.

 

As Host of the Orange Room, Carson will bridge TODAY's television and digital platforms and offer audiences the chance to communicate and connect with the show unlike ever before.

Carson will continue to host and produce NBC's hit series, "The Voice," which debuts its fifth season Monday, September 23, as well as his top-rated morning drive radio program on 97.1 AMP FM Los Angeles. Carson will continue as executive producer of "Last Call" and plans for a transition will be announced at a later date.

 

In addition, NBC has extended its relationship with Carson for a first-look development deal for scripted and alternative programs. Under his Daly Productions banner he will curate and create new material and opportunities for rising talent in music and entertainment.

He began his career in radio in the early 1990s quickly moving up the ranks as an on-air deejay in five different cities within his first five years.   Shortly thereafter, he landed one of the most coveted positions in the business -- the early evening voice of Los Angeles' influential and top-rated KROQ-FM.  MTV soon recognized his talent and brought him to New York City.

 

Carson served as host and executive producer of MTV's "Total Request Live" (TRL), where for four years he transformed an afternoon music video program into a must-stop on the publicity circuit for musicians, movie stars and entertainers alike.  In January 2002, he joined NBC as host of "Last Call with Carson Daly."  While at "Last Call," he has given many of the hottest bands their first break on U.S. television, including The Killers, Maroon 5, B.o.B., fun, Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar and many more.

 

For the past eight years, Carson and Universal Media Studios have produced NBC's annual New Year's Eve primetime special, "NBC's New Year's Eve with Carson Daly."  As host and executive producer, he has led the broadcast on all NBC platforms.
