Drew and Mike sign off from WRIF after 22 years on metro Detroit airwaves

DETROIT – Drew Lane and Mike Clark sat behind their microphone at the WRIF studio's like it was any other day. But Friday will go down in the radio history books as the legendary duo's final broadcast on 101.1 WRIF's "Drew and Mike in the Morning."

"I am trying to approach this like any other day. I've always loved this job every single day so I am trying to just have a good time," said Drew.

After 22 years of filling the airwaves with edgy interviews, sports talk and hilarious bits, they got the news that would not only shock them, but thousands of their listeners.

"I was sick to my stomach," Clark said. "They told me, 'Mike we're not renewing your contract.'"

Just last week, WRIF pulled the plug on the long-standing morning show.

The station knows this move is big, but they hope that their listeners will understand this business is ever-changing.

"This is one of the legendary morning shows of all time," said Steve Chessare, marketing director of Greater Media Detroit. "We felt this was their time, they've had an incredible run and we are so proud of what they've done for WRIF."

The WRIF studio was filled with mixed emotions. But Drew, Mike and Trudi -- along with their producing team -- approached their last day like any other.

They called former Detroit Lion Drew Stanton. Chatted about the final episode of the "Office." But most importantly, they thanked their fans for making 22 years of radio history.

"We're going to have a find a new place to play," said Drew. "Make sure you tune into us then, we're not done yet."
