Garth Brooks fans flock to Joe Louis Arena

About 36,000 people expected at Brooks' two shows

DETROIT – About 36,000 people were expected at Garth Brooks' two shows Saturday night. His ticket sales have been through the roof.

There was no opening act; the court superstar took the stage at 7 p.m. Saturday.

A little arctic air didn't stop thousands of metro Detroiters from lining up with their tickets in hand for the concert.

One woman said she went to Garth Brooks' first show at Hart Plaza in 1989 and didn't skip a beat when tickets for Saturday night's show went on sale.

Brooks' legendary appeal crosses generations, with lifelong fans who were at the concert Saturday with their children.

Brooks is considered by many as one of the best on stage and he proved his stamina with two-to-back shows. At 53, he's noticed a few changes when he looks out into the crowd.

Doing two shows is nothing new for the superstar, but it's rare for the Joe Louis Arena.

Staff were expected to move out 18,000 people around 9:30 p.m. and then the doors reopen at 10 p.m. Another 18,000 people will be moved in for the 10:30 p.m. show.
