Halloween comes early at Motor City Nightmares in Novi

Horror expo features actors, vendors, film screenings

NOVI, Mich. – Motor City Nightmares returns to Novi for another weekend of horror and entertainment April 28 to 30.

This spring’s horror expo and film festival brings actors, actresses and musicians to the event that celebrates all things creepy and weird.

Held in April and September, horror fans gather to meet icons of the genre and browse eerie items to purchase.

A long list of celebrities will be available for autographs and photos, including George Romero, the filmmaker and editor behind movies such as "Night of the Living Dead," "Dawn of the Dead," "Day of the Dead" and "Creepshow"; actor Sid Haig, who has performed in "House of 1000 Corpses" and "The Devil’s Rejects"; and Dee Snider, lead singer of Twisted Sister.

Last April, Sid Haig and Dee Wallace were part of the Motor City Nightmares Nightmare Hall of Fame. The hall of fame is to recognize those who have made the horror industry what it is.

Actor Kane Hodder was also honored. Hodder played Jason Voorhees in four films from the "Friday the 13th" series.

Other celebrity guests include Matthew Lillard, Richard Blake, John Russo, Sheryl Lee, Traci Lords, Jeffrey Daniel Phillips, Julian Sands, Dee Wallace, Meg Foster, Gaylen Ross, Lloyd Kaufman, Tom Atkins, Amy Steel, Tiffany Shepis, Scott Reiniger, Tom Savini, Nick Wolfe and Sir Graverson  & Co.

Panel discussions with horror movie cast members and roundtable discussions for filmmakers will also be held throughout the weekend.

Movie screenings will take place, including full-length movies and short films.

There will also be workshops on SFX makeup and body paint.

The pop-culture convention features vendors who will be selling all things horror-related, including unique movie memorabilia and Halloween decorations.

After the daily events, after parties are planned and will feature live music, contests and awards.

Motor City Nightmares hours: April 28 5-10 p.m., April 29 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., April 30 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The after parties are at 10:30 p.m. Friday and 8 p.m. Saturday.
