Julia Smith of Sterling Heights has won the 2013 Miss Michigan Outstanding Teen pageant.
The 14-year-old earned a $1,000 scholarship in addition to winning the title Wednesday at the Frauenthal Center for Performing Arts in Muskegon.
Smith tells MLive.com her experience at the pageant "was like a dream" and that she was "freaking out."
During the talent segment, Smith performed a number from "Bye Bye Birdie."
The first runner-up was Sarah Anderson of Bay City, who won a $700 savings bond scholarship.
The rest of the top five was Brooklynn Lambert of Monroe; Erica Kennedy of Lapeer; and Alisha Gatchel of Greenville.
The teen pageant is for girls ages 13 to 17.
