Michigan's Stay Away releases new track that paints powerful picture of uncertainty, confusion

Stay Away’s newest release takes a relationship on the edge and turns it into a song that is personal and raw yet upbeat.

“Disconnect” was written in a few days by frontman Wasim Bazzi. He had written the chorus six months prior to writing the full song, but said the actual track came together on the spur of the moment.

He said the others guys in Stay Away instantly loved the song and they recorded it a few months later.

The song goes through the ups and downs of a relationship, telling a personal story of uncertainty and confusion while trying to figure it out.

“I think it goes without saying you don’t want to be here,” the track begins. “It’s not like you’re staying.”

The lyrics of a troubling situation are surrounded by a harmonic background that also incorporates powerful guitar riffs that offset some of the relationship problems the song is about.

Personal songs are common for Bazzi. He typically does the band’s writing and brings the songs to the other members.

“It's really hard for me to write lyrics unless I really mean what I'm saying, and for that to happen I sort of have to be going through something,” Bazzi said.

Stay Away formed last October. Since then, the band has been touring and picking up new fans along the way.

The members bring together a variety of backgrounds to produce both underground and mainstream sounds.

The group got its start when one of Bazzi’s former bands, Traveler, disbanded after one tour. While on tour, he met John Kick and they wrote an album for fun. He also invited along Andrew Benjamin, though they had only just met.

When the album was finished, Stay Away was born, with Bazzi singing and on guitar, Benjamin on guitar and Kick on drums.

Another new single is due out in July.
