Report: New 'King Kong' movie to shoot in Detroit

Movie will feature Michael Keaton, Detroit native J.K. Simmons

We assume the new 'King Kong' movie will have better graphics than this shot from the 1933 film.

DETROIT – Another big movie is reportedly making its way to Detroit.

A new "King Kong" movie, starring Michael Keaton and Detroit native J.K. Simmons, will reportedly be shot in Detroit, set in a 1971 version of the city.

J.K. Simmons told MTV News about it in an interview before a Golden Globes red carpet event.

"It's where I grew up," Simmons said. "and we're going to shoot in Detroit during baseball season, so I'll get to go to Tigers games. There's a lot to like about making this movie."

MTV News' Josh Wigler reports that the movie is slated for a March 2017 release.
