Rolling Stone reports Lou Reed dead at 71

Reed best known for work with 'The Velvet Underground'

Rolling Stone is reporting that rock guitarist and songwriter Lou has died. He was 71.

His cause of death wasn't immediately released. However, he had undergone a liver transplant in May.

Reed is best known for his role with "The Velvet Underground" and his own solo career -- with hits such as "Walk on the Wild Side."

Reed was born in Brooklyn with the birth name Lewis Allen Reed.
