Season 11 of 'The Voice' returns with new judges' panel

Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys join 'The Voice'

Season 11 of "The Voice" brings in new judging style with the addition of Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus.

The 11th season of NBC's "The Voice" premiered Monday night with a reconfigured judges' panel.

Adding new judges Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus make it seem as though friction will be inevitable, but the unlikely duo connects with the ability to see the contestant as more than just a great voice.

Newcomer Keys claimed the first two singers Monday night by finding a deeper connection.  She talked about her experience and insight and revealed her own vulnerabilities.

“For me, it’s all about what we learn on the journey, how we can become the most empowered, powerful version of ourselves,” said Keys.

This resonated well with Chicago native Jason Warrior, who was the first to impress the judges on Monday. He chose Keys as his coach.

Similar to Keys, Cyrus searches for underlying qualities to capitalize on and attract the younger contestants.   Ali Caldwell, of New York, who formerly toured in Russia with Oleg, a re-known Jazz drummer, joined Team Cyrus after hearing what she could offer.

“What I could bring to you is sharing your stories through your songs so you don’t end it as a great singer,” said Cyrus.

Judges who focus merely on technicalities are being passed up by contestants who value this deeper connection with their coach.  As a result of, Team Alicia and Team Miley are growing rapidly.
