A new citywide campaign prevention project will provide awareness regarding pot smoking and psychosis.
"Smoking Psychosis: Sounding The Alarm" hopes to target age groups between 11 and 19 and bring awareness to Detroit and throughout Michigan about the dangers that exist and occur when smoking marijuana.
Recent data has shown that the number of young people being hospitalized with drug-induced psychosis has increased, and they are being admitted to psychiatric units due to marijuana usage, according to an antimarijuana group.
"It is a known fact that marijuana is being laced with drugs such as PCB, cocaine, rat poisoning and even Ajax cleaner. Embalming fluid, shoe polish cleaner and other harmful chemicals that contribute to the mental health challenges that our young people face are also present. It's time to sound the alarm about this mind-blowing problem," the project description states.
The program will offer workshops throughout the year in collaboration with the public and private school systems to set up in school groups that will train youth to speak to their peers about the project.
For more information about the program and how you can get involved, contact Reginald L. Sampson, pastor of Christ The King Full Gospel Church at (313) 567-3503.
