Some call them dog whisperers.
"We do talk to dogs," said Bonnie Wainz.
But their methods seem more like magic. Before Vladae Roytapel got his paws on Local 4 Paula Tutman's maltese, her dog Mailliw walked her.
Twelve-pound Mailliw was of the opinion that size didn't matter when it came to larger breed dogs.
That's when the whisperers broke the big news.
The problem wasn't with Paula's dog, it was with Paula. Roytapel told Tutman that it was she who needed the training.
By using unique subtle ways, Russian dog-trainer/behaviorist Roytapel says the body language of owners, their eye contact and sharp movements speak more clearly to canines than the English word "no."
Roytapel said people use the word "no" so often that it doesn't have meaning.
At his Alternative Canine Training, Roytapel and his business partner Bonny Wainz teach individual methods based on breed traits, individual characteristics within those breeds, special structures and canine ways of training. Techniques are based on body language, certain signals and movements.
"It's all in the way you talk to your dog," Roytapel said.
