'ID the Missing' event is Thursday in Wayne County

DETROIT – Anyone who is missing a loved one has the chance Thursday to try to get some answers.

The Michigan State Police, Detroit police, the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office and The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System at the a University of North Texas will be holding its third  "ID the Missing" event at the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office -- which is located at 1300 E. Warren Ave. in Detroit.

The event runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Families are asked to bring at least two biological donors, police reports, photos, dental records and x-rays of their missing loved ones when they attend the event. 

The Identify the Missing event was created to help identify human remains held at Medical Examiners Offices across the nation by matching them to family reference DNA donated by the families of missing persons.

Michigan has over 4,000 missing persons cases documented with law enforcement agencies, and there are currently 266 sets of unidentified human remains in the state. 

Identify the Missing events, along with continuing efforts, have resulted in the solving of 26 identifications cases total,16 of those cases were solved by matching DNA provided by family members.
