Coffee-Flavored Liqueur
Poured into pretty bottles, homemade coffee liqueur is a sophisticated gift from your kitchen. Make it soon and multiply the recipe, if you wish, so the brew will be ready for Christmas giving or for holiday serving.
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
¼ cup instant coffee, preferably freeze-dried
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (see Tip)
1 cup vodka
Combine the sugar and water in a small saucepan; bring to a boil over medium heat.
Remove from the heat. Add the coffee and vanilla; stir until dissolved. Let cool completely.
Add the vodka; mix well. Pour the mixture into one or several clean glass containers. Store in a cool dark place for at least 2 weeks; mix occasionally. (The liqueur can be used within a few days but improves with age.)
