A weight loss Web site launched a new service to help health-conscious diners learn the nutrition content of their favorite restaurant foods right on their cell phone.
The service is called "Nutrition on the Go." It's offered by Diet.com.
To find out nutrition facts, send a text message to DIET1 or 34381. Type in the menu item and size. The service will text back the nutritional content. For example, by sending Starbucks Grande White Hot Chocolate, you will receive a text back reading “Starbuck’s White Hot Chocolate - No Whip (nonfat Milk) Grande Cal’s: 480, Fat: 18g, Carb 63g, Prt: 17g."
A representative for Diet.com said the service has nutritional information on 36,000 menu items from 1,700 restaurant and chains.
The company said there is no charge for the service, beyond the fee consumers normally pay to send and receive text messages.
