Doctors Say Adults Need Shots, Too

Doctors warned it's not just children who need shots. Experts said many adults are missing crucial vaccinations.In the last three years, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have recommended three new adult vaccines.The whooping cough, or pertussis, vaccine is one of those shots. Experts said cases are on the rise in teenagers and adults who were vaccinated as children. The CDC recommended adults get one of two new vaccines combining whooping cough, tetanus and diphtheria protection.
The CDC also recommended the shingles vaccine for people over age 60. Shingles is a painful disease caused when the virus that causes chickenpox re-emerges in the body. Experts said the shingles vaccine cuts that risk in half.Young women are the target of the third new adult vaccine.
