WARREN, Mich. -- Doctors are recruiting patients who suffer from rosacea and aren't being treated.
Experts said rosacea is a common skin problem that causes patches of redness on the face and acne-like bumps.
Dr. Steven Grekin, a dermatologist in Warren, Mich., is participating in a research study that will compare two FDA-approved treatments to find out which one works best.
"If you have ten lesions at least on your face, and you're over 18, and are not being treated for any kind of acne or rosacea, you would be able to be enrolled in this study," said Grekin.
Grekin said in these difficult economic times, research like this is a great opportunity for patients to get treatment they otherwise wouldn't be able to afford.
"We love these studies because when offer these studies to the public, they get the drug that is already FDA-approved for free," said Grekin. "The drug has already been determined to be safe. In our bad economy, it's a win-win for everybody."
Places in the study are limited. Patients who are selected will receive the study medication and medical care at no cost.
