New Procedure Can Help Stop Excessive Menstruation
Radio Frequency Helps Zap Uterine Lining

Many women suffer each month with excessive menstrual bleeding, but now a new procedure may help stop the bleeding.
The name of the alternative procedure is the Nova Sure System. It's quick, effective and much less invasive than common hysterectomies which are used to correct bleeding problems.
The new vaginal procedure takes only 90 seconds to perform. The procedure uses radio frequency energy that travels through a disposable electrode zapping the endometrial lining, permanently inhibiting tissue re-growth.
"You are not removing any organs, you are leaving everything intact but you are burning and essentially scarring the inside of the uterus," said Dr. Douglas Smith.
Studies show 40 percent of patients stop bleeding completely, while the remaining 60 percent have a significant reduction in their menstrual flow. The goal of this procedure is to limit or end heavy menstruation flows.
The Nova Sure System will not eliminate premenstrual symptoms such as bloating and tenderness, and is not recommended for women who want to have children. However, while the endometrial lining is destroyed, it is not considered a contraceptive procedure.
