What's Going Around: Chicken Pox, Allergies

Local doctors report several cases of sniffling and sneezing, along with a childhood illness that's hitting some adults in this week's What's Going Around.
Wayne County
St. John's Children's Center reports that many of its patients are suffering from the common cold and ragweed allergies.
Children's Hospital is seeing more cases of pink eye, and doctors at Garden City Hospital report several cases of chicken pox in children and adults.
Oakland County
A stomach virus is making the rounds at St. John Oakland and Beaumont hospitals, Local 4 reported.
Doctors at Providence in Southfield said sinus problems have been an issue for adults, and doctors in Novi are seeing a few cases of vertigo caused by ear infections.
Washtenaw County
St. Joseph Mercy hospital is treating sore throats, which in some cases have caused laryngitis.
Allergies, especially due to ragweed, also made the list in Washtenaw.
Monroe County
In Monroe County, Mercy Memorial hospital reported several cases of allergies, plus some earaches in children.
The common cold was also prevalent in patients of all ages.
Macomb County
Emergency room doctors at Mount Clemens General Hospital are treating more sports injuries from soccer and football.
Bug bites also made the list, and with the risk of West Nile virus, doctors are encouraging patients to use repellent with DEET and avoid going out at dusk and dawn.
