There is nothing fun about allergies or asthma, especially when your own child is suffering, according to Local 4 Good Health reporter Kim Adams.A new line of toys promises to reduce children's risk of developing these conditions from the beginning.Julie Gordon and Kelly Majewski, like most mothers, want to do everything possible to keep their children healthy. They hope their new line of Baby Boost toys and clothing is the answer, Local 4 reported.
Each item contains a special fiber technology designed to help boost a child's developing immune system. The company claims the toys can reduce a child's risk of developing asthma and allergies by 75 percent. The technology was developed by researchers at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology."The idea is to recreate the air environment that research has shown reduces the risk of allergies and asthma," said Dr. Simon Dao, a researcher at MIT.Dao said this should happen naturally, but infants and toddlers who grow up in urban environments may not be getting the right proteins in the air."With our air, a lot of these proteins have been displaced and replaced with pollution," said Dao.Each of the Baby Boost products contain about 15 to 20 pellets made of an odorless protein, Local 4 reported. The time-release proteins last about three years.Local 4 spoke to some allergists who said the concept is interesting, but more research is needed to prove the products really can make a difference. The Baby Boost products are designed to reduce seasonal and pet allergies, not food allergies, Local 4 reported. Prices range from $15 to $50.
