Fire crews who rushed to help a woman in Livonia are seeking medial assistance themselves.

Livonia firefighters and paramedics were assisting a 40-year-old woman who claimed to be ill. Crews rushed the woman by ambulance to St. Mary Hospital, where doctors diagnosed her with bacterial meningitis, Local 4 reported.

There are two forms of meningitis - bacterial and viral - and the woman was diagnosed with bacterial, which doctors say is a more serious form.

Meningitis, which is highly contagious, is an infection of the fluid in a person's spinal cord and the fluid that surrounds the brain. Symptoms include high fever, stiff neck and vomiting, according to the station's reports.

The woman, firefighters and paramedics that assisted her are being treated with antibiotics to hopefully eliminate any sign of infection.
