Common colds at school linked to asthma hospitalizations

Asthma hospitalizatons spike after kids go back to school

Doctors believe common cold viruses are the reason why asthma-related hospitalizations spike among kids after spring and summer breaks.

Researchers at the University of Texas at Austin used a computer-based mathematical model in this study. They found children's immunity may decrease during long vacations and breaks because they are not around as many other kids and germs. When school starts again, their lowered immunity could set them up for a more difficult time with their asthma when they run into cold viruses.
