MACOMB COUNTY, Mich. – Influenza is now widespread in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This is an early season, with more influenza activity being reported at this time than has been seen during recent flu seasons. Experts agree the best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated each year.
William Ridella, health officer/director of the Macomb County Health Department is asking everyone to get vaccinated.
"Vaccine is available at our three Health Centers and we encourage everyone who has not yet been vaccinated to do so as soon as possible," he said.
Influenza is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Getting vaccinated will lessen chances of getting the seasonal flu and also lessen the chance of spreading it to others. The vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older. Immunizations can reduce the severity of the illness and prevent pneumonia and other life-threatening results of flu.

Residents can obtain flu vaccine at the following clinic locations:
- Mount Clemens Health Center, 43525 Elizabeth Road, Mount Clemens. Open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. (Late hours Wednesday until 6:30 p.m.)
- Southwest Health Center, 27690 Van Dyke, Ste. B, Warren. Open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. (Late hours Thursday until 6:30 p.m.)
- Southeast Health Center, 25401 Harper Avenue, St. Clair Shores. Open 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday. (Late hours Monday until 6:30 p.m.)
A parent or guardian must be available to sign clinic health forms for each child. (Bring an adult translator if unable to speak or read English.) Also, bring immunization records and/or insurance cards for all persons being immunized.

There are charges for administration of vaccines -- cash or check only. Medicaid/Medicare will be billed for approved vaccines.
