DETROIT – The Sickle Cell Disease Association of America and Fulfill the Cell Foundation are teaming up to help raise funds to create a traveling exhibit about sickle cell disease. The exhibit would travel to African American museums across the country.
The "Sickle Cell Disease Gala" will be held Friday, March 1 at 6:00pm at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African-American History.
The event will feature the premiere of the documentary "Sickle Cell Anemia: Forgotten, But Not Gone" by Kelly Littlejohn. Littlejohn's son 11-year-old Allen suffers from sickle cell disease and has endured countless hospital stays, blood transfusions, bouts with pneumonia and surgery to remove his gallbladder.
